Best Film Schools to Choose From

All schools have unique things to offer. And that is the reason why schools have their own characteristics and identity. You will probably hear in some conversations that the school is sometimes blamed for the type of image an individual portrays in public. For example the statement: “Well, he acts that way since he is from the Blank Wall University. All students who came from that school act in that manner.” And this type of interference is not illogical at all. A specific culture and characteristic is attributed to a certain school because of peer pressure.

So, to determine which is the best film school is not that difficult. The answer is: it actually depends on what you hope to become in your film school experience. Every particular film school has its certain attributes and features that the best thing you have to do is to find it out first. The country where the school is situated will also play an important role in knowing the character of a specific film school.

There are many aspects to consider: the course offerings, the length of time every subject is discussed, the number of written modules versus actual practice, the college incorporators and the course, significant guests appearing in lectures, the reputation of the school and if that would matter in the end of the course. I always believe it will. It helps how you move in the world, whether up or down. However, in the real world of film, degrees runout of value and what has more weight is track record and experience. There’s no amount of argument that can topple off track record and innate talent. Some examples of schools with perfect status and repute are:

American Film Institute

New York University

California State of the Arts

University of Southern California

University of California – Los Angeles

Aside from the United States, there are two noted film schools that anybody who’s interested can opt for and they are: the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School and the United Kingdom’s National Film and Television School. This isn’t to belittle the capacity of the other international film schools to teach ably the art of filmmaking but rest assured there are those that can be at par with the previously mentioned ones. What one needs to do is run a deep research on his aspirations in the film industry, the culture that he wants to inculcate on himself, and where he would be most comfortable in.
