How to install your wiring, and make it a.) Invisible, or b.) Nice to look at:

Alrightee! So, you’re off to installing all of the big-time components to your stereo system. I know you really really really want to skip the boring parts (like running wires), and go straight to installing the components, and turning on your system. Nnnnnno!

Like I have said countless times before, we’re here to do a QUALITY stereo install. Not some janky, lame-o quickie job. We’re installing a stereo for the life of your vehicle, and as such, we spend a little extra time to do things properly. Sooooo, when it comes to wiring, we need to think about how we want to do things first.

To re-cap. Do you know what components you’ll be installing? Even if you don’t have all of the components now, hopefully you know what your plans are. This allows you to run all of the wires, so when you finally get your components, you can just mount them, and hook up the wires, and you’re ready to rock.

Don’t be stupid like most people, and think of components first, THEN think about how to install them. Think of how to install components, get the install parts, THEN install the components. DUH!!! By the way, you’ll save time and money with this approach.

Was that a long enough introduction? OK, let’s get into what you should know about wiring!

First, buy all of the wiring that you think you’ll need, and some extra just for safety. Don’t worry, your money won’t be wasted!

Next, disassemble your vehicle in the places where the wiring will be run. When I say disassemble, I mean it! Pull out seats, carpet, panels, everything! Trust me, this will make running wires easier and safer.

If you plan to use any sort of sound insulation or damping material, now is the time to lay it. If you don’t plan on using it, why not? This will make your system sound better by lowering noise, and by eliminating vibrations. Just do it!

Now, you get to run wires. Run them everywhere they’ll be needed. Run power wires, RCA wires, speaker wires, interface wires, remote turn on wires. EVERYTHING.

Now that they’re laid out how you want and need them, it’s time to secure them. Vehicle manufacturers use ties everywhere to keep wires organized and out of the way. Now it’s your turn! Many many many people skip this step, and I don’t think it’s too smart.

Why?

Because when wires are subjected to vibrations, stress, weather, and other things that are constantly present in vehicles, they tend to wear away. When wires wear away, you get…

Short circuits!

Vehicle fires!

Ruined components!

Don’t risk it, just secure your wires!

If you have amp racks or other items that your wiring will go through, it’s time to mount those items, and secure the wiring to them.

OK, OK. Those are the basic steps you’ll go through to run wires. But, how do you actually do it? Let’s break it down:

1.) Measure distances between where components will be mounted, and what they connect to. For example, measure from the battery to where you’ll mount your amp. Also, don’t be stupid. Buy a few extra feet at each end, so you’ll have room for error. Also, you’ll want to make sure none of the wires are stretched. You want to have some slack at each end. This will make your life much easier.

Other distances to measure:

Head unit to amp

Amp to speakers

Head unit to cd/dvd changer, mp3 player, navigation system, etc.

Also, before you buy your wires, be sure you know what will work best with your planned components. If you’re planning to install a 500 watt amp, and you know that amp will be 17′ from the battery, use a chart to figure out what wire guage to use. People like to get all loco in the cabeza with power wire, and spend $5 a foot on 0 guage wire. WHY??? If you don’t need it, don’t buy it!

2.) OK, so you have all of your wiring in hand, and ready to go. Now is the time to take apart parts of your vehicle. First, figure out where your wires will be run. I usually run my power wire on the same side of the vehicle as the battery. I also usually run my RCA cables down the center of the vehicle. Knowing this information will tell you where you need to remove parts from your vehicle. If you’re not going to be running wires in a certain part of your vehicle, then it won’t be necessary to take anything apart. UNLESS!! UNLESS!!! UNLESS!!!! You plan to put some sound damping material down. I always recommend this!

So, here we go. Time for the fun part. First things first. Disconnect the ground (aka negative) wire from the battery.

Pull up panels! I highly recommend some sort of panel removal tool to remove panels. This will help protect your panels from breaking.

3.) Time to run wires!

First, we’ll run the power cable: Find a hole in the firewall of your vehicle. If you can’t find a hole, you might be able to squeeze a power cable through the far corner of your hood, by the windshield and into your vehicle that way. If you can’t do that, then you’ll have to drill. Every car is different, but one piece of advice is always true: Plan ahead, and be careful! Inspect where you plan to drill the hole, and be sure you won’t damage anything in the process. Take it slow, or if you’re feeling really nervous, drive your vehicle to a stereo shop, and have them run your power wire through the firewall. Next, run the cable wherever it will fit nicely, and not be visible once you put the carpet back in place. Run it all the way to your trunk (or wherever you plan to have your amp or distribution blocks mounted). Next, secure the cable. Use zip ties, or glue, or even velcro to make sure your power cable stays where it should. Be sure it is not near any moving parts, or rubbing on anything that will strip the insulation. Also, be sure it will not get in the way of anything once you re-install all of the panels, carpet, etc.

Next, let’s run your RCA cable(s), interface cables and Remote turn on wire. Again, be sure the negative cable is disconnected from the battery. Disassemble any and all of the panels surrounding your head unit. Pull your head unit out. Next, pull up all of the panels, consoles and carpet around where you’ll be running your RCA cable and interface cable. Connect the remote turn-on wire to your head unit’s wiring harness. If you are planning to connect more than one or two devices to your head unit’s remote turn-on, you will want to look into installing a relay. Next, run the RCA cables, interface cable and remote turn-on. All of the stuff I said earlier about power cables is also true of RCA and interface cables. Be sure your cable is not near any moving parts, it is not rubbing against anything that will strip the insulation, and it is mounted in such a way that it will not show once the panels and carpet are put back in place. Connect the RCA cables to the pre-outs on your head unit, and be sure you know which RCA cable goes to which channel on your amp. Many RCA cables use color-coding, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. Plug in your interface cable. Now, re-install your head unit. Make sure everything is all hooked up before you put everything back together!!

OK, last step. Let’s run speaker wire! This is exactly like running all of the other wires above. Pull up the panels. Run the wires. Be mindful of where you plan to run them. Secure them. Make sure you have a few extra feet at each end of the speaker cable. I know this sounds stupid, but trust me. It’s more stupid to spend all of this time running wire only to discover that it’s too short. Then, you have to pull the wire up, throw it away, then run it all over again. DUMB!

4.) Secure wires!

Now that your wires are run, it’s time to secure them. There are many ways to secure wires, and not all of them will work at all times. In fact, you’ll probably need to use a variety of methods to secure your wires throughout your vehicle. Soooooo….

1.) Secure wires with zip ties to other bundles of wires.

2.) Secure wires with zip ties to small holes (or create small holes)

3.) Use glue to secure zip ties to your vehicle, then secure the wires with them.

4.) Run wires behind objects that they can be secured to.

5.) Use velcro to secure wires

5.) Secure wires to mounting locations (amp racks, speaker pods, etc)

If you have any sort of custom enclosure or rack for your stereo components, you’ll want to find a way to secure your wires to the rack or enclosure. If these racks or enclosures are designed to be seen, you might want to take some time making the wires visible, and looking good.

In the example of amp racks, you can drill holes where all of the electrical connections go into the amp. Run the wires through these holes, and to your amp. This trick will make your wires look nice and clean, and keep your wires organized.

For speaker enclosures, there are a variety of things you can do to make the wires look good. For plexiglass subwoofer enclosures, people often choose wire that looks good. In addition, top installers will choose wire hardware (terminals) that are of high quality, and look good. If you want your enclosure to be removable, you can install speaker terminals on the outside of the enclosure, or even install a custom quick-release wiring harness.

Enjoy!

Before you begin-

How to wire a wiring harness:

READY?? Let’s go, dude!

1.) Remove negative battery cable from battery:

This is simple, and is an easy step to skip, but I will tell you now that on more than one occasion I have messed up a piece of gear because I was careless and did not disconnect the battery. Be safe, be smart. Just spend the 2 seconds to unhook the battery. PLEASE!!!

2.) Disassemble dash/console head unit mounting location

To get the factory head unit out is usually a pretty easy process. Most times it only requires the removal of a few panels and screws. Sometimes these panels are held on with clips instead of screws, so you’ll want to get a panel removal tool to remove them safely.

There is an absolutely great website called http://www.installdr.com/ that has excellent guides to the installation of gear in certain vehicles.

3.) Dismount factory head unit

Once you have the panels off that surround the factory head unit, unmount the factory radio. It is often held on by bolts. If the radio is mounted on any sort of bracket or cage, remove the brackets or cage with the factory unit still intact. These brackets or cages can be useful in mounting the new head unit.

4.) Put together aftermarket install kit (if necessary)

If your vehicle needs an install kit, now is the time to put it together. Think about how the head unit will fit into the install kit, and from there to the vehicle. This is where those factory brackets or cages may come in handy. Once the head unit is secured to the install kit, and ready for install…

5.) Hook up wiring harnesses, antenna adapters, RCA cables, interface cables

Hook up all of the stuff that needs to be plugged in, such as…

Wiring harness: For power, ground, power antenna, amp turn-on, speaker power, etc.

Antenna adapter: Adapts your factory antenna to your aftermarket head unit.

RCA Cables: If you have an amp in your system, and you want to use the pre-outs on your head unit, hook up your RCA cables.

Input cables: If you want to hook up and RCA input to hook up an mp3 player or other device, plug that cable in; if your head unit offers an RCA input feature.

Interface cable: Hook this up if you have CD/DVD/MP3 Player installed in your vehicle, or if you want to hook up ipods, satellite radio and other devices

6.)Test

Okay, it’s all hooked up. You’re so excited! You’ve re-connected the battery, you turn the key, and bam! The screen turns on, and you feel good. The music sounds good, the CD plays, everything is well. Great!

What if it doesn’t work?

Check your wiring

Be sure you remembered to hook the battery back up

Be sure the unit is getting power. Use a digital multi-meter.

7.) Mount and secure new head unit

Once it is all working, mount the new head unit to it’s location. Be sure it fits well, and looks good with the panels on. Be sure it’s straight. We’re doing a professional job here, not some lame quickie job. If you have funky screws (like torx, or other odd shaped screws), try to incorporate these into your install. This will make your head unit more difficult to steal.

You also will want to mount your head unit with a backstrap. This is a long metal strip with holes that you can use to stabilize the rear of the unit. Find a place to attach the backstrap to the vehicle, then attach it to the head unit.

8.) Tweak to sound best with amps

If you have amps in your system, you’ll want to tweak them with your new head unit. The first step is to turn the gains on your amps all the way down. Pick out a well recorderd piece of music that isn’t too loud or bass heavy. Look for one with good balance. From here, be sure all of the sound enhancement effects on your head unit are turned off, be sure the treble and bass are neutral, the fader is centered, the balance is centered, and no sort of loudness control or eq preset is active. Turn your head unit all the way up, or until you begin to hear distortion. If you hear distortion, back off the volume until it is completely gone. No more adjustment is necessary. Just remember not to turn the volume past that point of distortion! If there is no distortion, go to your amplifier’s gain controls, and turn them up one at a time until distortion is heard. Back the volume up a few notches, and you’re set. Turn the volume on your head unit down, and you’re stereo is now all ready to go.

Enjoy the sounds!

-Honest AEB

What do you do with all the movies you download to your PC, spend a couple days burning them to a DVD or VCD, which can take a lot of time and might not work. You have your Computer set up for home theater great sound system. Expensive speakers outstanding graphics you can see every little detail on your whopping 17 inch monitor, for a computer monitor that is a good size. Hooking up your PC to your TV to really enjoy your movies and maybe for more then one person to enjoy. Why not connect your PC to your TV.

I am going to tell you how you can hook up your PC to Your TV so you can watch your movies on your TV.

The first step is to look at the back of your computer and see what kind of video card you have (you will need a video card no more then a 100 bucks at your computer store) most new computers have a video card. On the back of your computer there are three basic connectors you are looking for 1st one is the RCA composite, 2nd SVIDEO, and Third VGA, connectors if you have one of the 1st two you have a video card.

Newer computers most probably will have one of these type of connectors.

RCA are the1-3 male plug ins, might only be 2 on the back of your computer, yellow, video, red or white or both audio.

The most common cables for hooking up your DVD player to your TV.

SVIDEO is superior to the RCA cables it will offer you better graphics and sound (note: you can still use the audio off your computer if you want to)

The VGA is what you hook up your monitor with you will need to have a HDTV to be able to use this one, if you do have a HDTV this is the best way to hook up your PC. if that is all you have you will need to get a video card, there is an adapter but it is not recommended, costs more then a new video card

If you are wondering that’s it. There’s got to be more there is, as with anything you do with your computer it depends on your video graphics. You might have to tweak the settings but that’s about it if your computer already has video out it is basically set up. Now you are ready to watch your movies you have downloaded. You can store them on your HarDrive and watch them whenever you want. So instead of trying to hook up your TV to your PC hook up your PC to your TV. Are movies you downloaded the only thing you can watch NO. Go to my blog and learn how you can get free satellite TV on your PC.

Copying movies from your camera to a DVD is simpler than you think. There are a few ways to do this, the simplest and cheapest is using a DVD recorder. However, it limits editing options to what the recorder offers. We’ll get to how you can get around this and edit your movies later.

To Copy Camcorder to DVD, follow these steps:

First, you’ll need a DVD Recorder with a Blank DVD-RW inside (the media on which the movie will be recorded) and the Camcorder with the tape/video inside. DVD recorders go from $150 if you don’t already have one.

Connect the Camcorder’s Audio/Video outputs to the DVD Recorder’s Audio/Video inputs. Choose the right cable for your camcorder: For Older ones, use a cable such as RCA. Most new, digital camcorders have a Firewire (IEEE 1394) connection.

Make sure the Camcorder is connected to an AC power source, and not batteries. Rewind the Video you want to copy. Begin recording with the DVD recorder, while clicking the play button on your camcorder simultaneously.

If you want to copy more than one movie, simply pause the DVD recorder, switch a tape in the camcorder and proceed as in step 3.

Make sure the DVD is finalized before removing it, so it can be used with other drives. For more info, refer to the DVD recorder manual.

Now that your movie is on a DVD, it’s much easier to edit it with your PC. Just pop the DVD in to your PC, convert the movie on it to a more comfortable format (such as AVI or MPG), and start editing with your favorite software.

Copying Movies from your camcorder to a DVD can be a bit frustrating at first, but once you’re experienced it’s a breeze. Soon enough it will become fun & simple.

Car audio amplifier is a tool that plays music inside a car. This amplifier is not a built in tool. That means you will not get it while buying a car. You have to buy it separately and have to install it in your car. Installing this has some specific procedures. Here you will some basic instructions about how to install a car audio amplifier.

First, you have to disconnect the terminals. This is not mandatory but this is just for safety reason. Now, you have to run the power cable to the amplifier from the battery. You have to find a ground point. It has to be closer to the amplifier. Make sure that the point is attached to the frame of the vehicle. The connection also has to be solid.

Run your power cable to the amplifier just as you have done with the power cable. If your ground point has any color, then remove it. Use a sandpaper to do this job. You can use it also to remove any rust. The connection will not be solid if the metal is not shiny. If you want to attach a ring terminal with the ground point, then this is the right time to do that. After this you have to wrap up the ground point with something that is non conducting. Then use some spray paint or any kind of finish that will protect the ground point from rust.

Do not forget to turn on the remote and to run the RCA cables. You have to pull out the head unit out of the mounting location. Fasten the remote turn on wire with the wiring harness of the head unit. Now, decide which amplifier will contain which RCA cable. Keep the RCA cables away from any type of power cables. Keep them away especially from the amps power cable.

Now, let all the wires of the speakers run. Fasten the wires with the amplifier. After this turn the remote on and add the power to the ground. Attach the fuse holder. Always attach it near the battery. If your battery terminals are very sophisticated, then do not forget to give proper protection and connect them in the right way. Attach the other cables with the battery. It will be better if you can get your battery terminals a brand new cover.

Before turning on the amplifier, check it properly. Turn the gain of the amplifier down. After that turn your system on and listen carefully. Check whether everything is working properly or not. Listen to the sound carefully. Think whether you can hear any noise or not, and verify how much noise you can hear. Verify whether there is any distortion exists that is audible. If everything is completely all right, then move on to the next step.

Your next step is to think how you will give power to the amp, where your amp will stay, etc. With that your amplifier will be fixed perfectly. If you follow all these steps then you will be able to install your amplifier safely and properly.

Home IP networks are increasingly equipped with network drives. The Network Attached Storage (NAS) is used to create data libraries as well as backup storage. More and more space in the store is taken by multimedia files – photos, movies, music – so it is logical to connect the network to the stereo, HD television, home theater projector.

There is available home equipment with LAN ports, among other things televisions that can cooperate with other devices compliant with DLNA (The Digital Living Network Alliance) certificate. The standard developed by this international body is being implemented in televisions, digital video recorders (DVRs), cellular phones, NAS drives, stereos, home theaters, PCs, laptops, netbooks, palmtops, network printers.

Connecting the TV set to the home network, the user gets access to the media in the home archive or stored e.g. on his/ her mobile phone. For example, selected photos from the mobile phone can be printed during watching them on TV.

If the devices use different standards, it may cause problems. On the Internet the users can find lists of compatible software, operating systems and types of multimedia, as well as appropriate transcoders.

To avoid such problems, simpler solutions are based on hard drives equipped with USB ports (for recording the files) and HDMI, RCA or optical outputs for connection to a home theater.

An integrated concept of home multimedia system was shown at CeBIT 2009 by NETGEAR Inc.

The solution combines in one network with Internet access a number of devices:

* desktop and mobile computers with wired and wireless cards

* NAS drives

* wireless USB print server

* WiFi SKYPE phones

* powerline Ethernet adapters

* multimedia players (digital entertainers)

The core of the home system is one or more multimedia players. They provide access to the multimedia from the archive, home LAN or the Internet. The signals from the players are available in AV, Component Video, Cinch, S/PDIF (coaxial/optical), S-Video, HDMI connectors. The “digital entertainers” are equipped with both wired and wireless Ethernet interfaces.

For transmitting HD video, the company recommends wired links. The reason is that wireless networks (aside from IEEE802.11n draft 2.0) are not suitable for such transmissions. Typical HD movie requires effective (and stable) throughput at a level of about 20 Mbps (it is close to the practical limits of the devices using IEEE802.11a or EEE802.11g standards).

BLU-RAY (aka BLURAY) HI-defintion players are not the same worldwide. In fact a BLU-RAY disc from one of the three REGIONS won’t usually play at all on players from the other two regions.

What are these regions and why are they? See below.

But is there such a thing as a MULTIREGION BLU-RAY player and if so will you need a special Multisystem TV?

Yes, MULTIREGION BLU-RAY players do exist today and no you don’t need a PAL-NTSC TV to display the BLURAY movies. Any working TV with HDMI input will work fine.

BLU-RAY REGIONs A and B and C and DVD REGIONs 1 and 2 will be available around March 1st 2008.

What are BLU-RAY “Regional Codes”? “Country Codes”? “Zones”? and will they affect you and me?

Hollywood producers want to control the home release of movies in different countries because theater releases are often on different dates in the world wide release of a movie.

A movie may come out on Blu-ray Disc in the U.S. when it’s just hitting screens in Europe so to prevent various regions of the world from buying the BLU-RAY movies before they have come out in cinemas, thereby reducing the box office sales of those films and certainly the eventual BLU-RAY dvd release as well of those films there are devices created to stop such TV viewing of new movies.

Besides being able to see movies before approved release dates many films come out in various edited versions. Some have scenes deleted or augmented in various versions but if you want the complete unedited version of your favorite film and it isn’t available in your country you might normally have no way of ever seeing it unless you traveled to a country having your version available. But just because you can see it in that country doesn’t mean you can take it home and view it on your player and on your TV. Quite the contrary. That’s where a multiregion BLU-RAY DVD player comes in.

To block you studio require that the Blu-ray standard include codes to prevent playback of certain discs in certain geographical regions. Each player is given a code for the region in which it’s sold. The player will refuse to play discs that are not coded for its region. This means that a disc bought in one country may not play on a player bought in another country and even if it could there is the matter of the VIDEO STANDARD to deal with. There are two standards in regular DVDs and two in BLU-RAY (Please rad below about this as actually in HDMI there are NO video standards) and they are NTSC and PAL. These alone make it impossible to view a disc of one standard on a TV that isn’t of that standard even if you have a MULTIREGION BLU-RAY DVD player. The TV must match (unless you have a BLU-RAY discs playing in a MULTIREGION PLAYER via HDMI output)!

These TVs do exit and come in all video standards, formats (tune type CRT-LCD-PLASMA etc.) sizes and voltages. Or you can buy a quality DIGITAL VIDEO STANDARDS converter such as a TENLAB and simply use any working TV on earth to view your movies.

But please note:

If you out a BLU-RAY movie via the HMDI cable to an HMDI TV of any standard (PAL, NTSC, SECAM etc.) you will see a perfect picture as BLU-RAY and HDMI have done away with the traditional Video Standards like PAL, NTSC etc.

If you have a BLU-RAY region C disc it will play on all BLU-RAY players worldwide as there is no REGION C lock on them.

So any BLU-RAY region free for regions A and B or any BLU-RAY player that is not multiregion will play all REGION C BLU-RAY discs on any TV with HDMI input.

Miracle, the age of having to deal with non-compatible video standards has ended. Only REGIONS A and B are still incompatible and with a MULTIREGION (AKA MULTI-REGION, MULTI REGION etc.) player one can view any and ALL Blu-Ray movies on any TV on earth with HDMI.

To be confusing however please note:

If your TV does not have an HDMI input then you will still be stuck needing a PAL-NTSC TV or a video standards converter to view BLU-RAY movies via the RCA or S-VIDEO video output.

3 regions (also called locales or zones) have been defined, and each one is assigned a number. Players and discs are often identified by their region number superimposed on a world globe. If a disc plays in more than one region it will have more than one number on the globe.

Region A: North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia

Region B: Europe, Greenland, French territories, Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand

Region C: Pakistan, India, Mainland China, Russia, Central and South Asia

Hope you enjoy the read as much as I did and please if you have something to say, use the comments form below to let everyone know your thoughts.

Have a great day!

By now you may have heard that February 17, 2009 is that date when the change will take place, but the fact is that date is the deadline when the major broadcasting stations must stop broadcasting the analog signals and must make the change to digital. This means that many of the stations are already broadcasting the digital signal now.

There are three ways in which people receive a TV signal.

o	Using a Satellite provider

o	Using a cable provider

o	Over the air with either and indoor or outdoor antenna

The fact is that if you already have Cable or Satellite, the transition should not affect you at all. However if you are using an antenna, then there are some simple measures you will need to take in order to still receive a signal

Satellite already broadcasts, an all digital signal, and as long as you have a satellite receiver, nothing will change for you when the transition is made. Since a set-top box (receiver) is already required to receive a signal, all your sets will work fine regardless if the set is the newer digital type or the old analog type.

For those households that get their TV signals through their cable company, your current TV sets are connected to the cable either through a set-top box or the cable is plugged directly into your TV. People may also have some sets with boxes and others with just the cable connection

Since the FCC has agreed to allow cable companies to covert the new digital signals to analog signals that non-digital TV sets now receive, analog TVs in these cable homes will still be able to show a signal. Right now TVs will not require a set-top box until at least 2012.

As for the households without cable or satellite TV who still want to receive their TV signals for free, the answer is simple. All you need is an inexpensive DTV converter box, which will convert the new digital signals to analog signals. These boxes cost about $40.00 to $50.00 each, but homeowners can take advantage of the government coupon program that gives you a $40.00 credit toward the purchase of an approved convert box.

These boxes usually connect to the TV by way of the RCA jacks and you will need either rabbit ears or an attic or rooftop antenna to receive the signal into the box which then coverts the signal so that you can view the picture on the TV set. You do not have to go out and buy a new antenna if you already own one, because your existing antenna will work just fine. You will not have to replace your antenna with a DTV antenna, so don’t be fooled into buying something you don’t need.

There is one more option for over the air TVs and that is simply by a DTV with a built in tuner, and you will be able to receive the digital signal. Since almost all DTV sets are now HDTVs, you will have the added bonus of being able to receive any broadcast High Definition signals, which greatly enhances the picture. You will still however, need an antenna.

Here is one more bonus for those of you receiving your signal over the air; you will receive extra programming because of the multicast sub-channels that many broadcasters have to accompany their main broadcast channel.

In conclusion, as long as you make use of any of the three methods for receiving and converting the signals mentioned above before February 17, 2009, you won’t be without a TV picture on your set.

Yes, you may have discovered a way to convert all your videos and transport them to your iPod. And had a blast taking them on a quiet little corner of the woods while camping. Now, you find that you’ve strained your eyes long enough watching videos on a tiny 3-inch screen and would like to view them normal-sized. Well, here are the steps on how you can connect your iPod to your TV;

1. Get an A/V cable ready – This is usually an 8-inch-to-RCA cable with three plugs (red, white and yellow) at one end and a 3.5mm 3-banded 8-inch A/V plug at the other end.

2. Change your iPod Settings – Go to iPod Settings, select Videos and then Video Settings from the main menu. There are three settings you can adjust to set the playback style that works for you:

a. TV Out – Video iPods can play video on either its built-in screen or transmit video signals via the microphone jack. It cannot play through both. Choose Yes – to produce a TV signal, No – to playback on itself, and Ask – to prompt you every time you play a video file.

b. TV Signal – Depending on where your TV came from you need to set the signal to either NTSC (standard used in US and JAPAN) or PAL (for European and Australian television sets.)

c. Widescreen – The built-in screen uses a 4:3 screen ratio while a widescreen a 16:9 proportion. Select YES to generate a widescreen signal or NO for the traditional TV output.

3. Connect the TV to your iPod – Make sure to connect the A/V cord’s 8-inch to the iPod’s earphone jack. And unlike the conventional way of plugging the RCA plugs, you need to remember the following:

a. Plug the red RCA to your TV’s yellow RCA jack.

b. Plug the yellow RCA to your TV’s white RCA jack.

c. Plug the white RCA to your TV’s red RCA jack.

4. Play your video – Select the movie you want to watch in your iPod, if you set TV Out to ASK – you will be prompted to play the video with TV On or TV Off. Choose TV On and enjoy your movie!

You'll need to supply your own composite-video cables, and if you have an older TV you may require a video modulator to convert the receiver's composite-video (yellow RCA jack) signal to an RF signal (which uses a thicker, threaded jack). … SONY HT-DDW660 — This 420-watt Home Theater System delivers a cinematic experience in your home, without crowding you out of the room! Connects easily to digital cable boxes, satellite boxes, HDTV set top boxes, Playstation 2 and …

One of the key elements you need to get your high definition TV set to work as it is intended to you need to invest in a quality HDTV antenna. This is extremely important if you don’t want to continue with a service from your satellite or cable provider. There are two type of HDTV antennas to choose from – the external type that are for outdoors and the internal type that are for inside.

There are some very powerful HDTV antennas offered that you should be aware of. The Channel Master CM3016 HDTV outdoor Aerial Antenna offers 24 elements. The main features are a locking corner reflector, EPC coating, and a boom length of 66″. The UHF is 30 miles, the VHF is 45 miles, and the FM ranges are 45 miles. The M61415 Automatic by Philips is a good choice as well.

Before you decide on what type of HDTV antenna to buy you need to find out if it is illegal to have one outside according to your local ordinances. This happens in some areas because an external one is more powerful when it comes to collecting the signals. If you can place one outdoors you will get better quality service than having an indoor HDTV antenna. Some of the most popular brands of outdoor HDTV antennas are Terk TV 55, the Silver Sensor, and the RCA ANT501.

If you plan to take advantage of watching off air HDTV shows then you will need an off air HDTV antenna to do so. It is very important to understand your satellite and cable provider can’t receive an estimated 1,000 stations and 200 digital TV signals that provide HDTV programs so you will get many more channels if you set this up.

If you take a look around you will find a variety of off air HDTV antennas available. One of the best ones to consider is the HDTV Antenna Pro for $49.99 because it is pre assembled and you can install it almost anywhere. It only weighs 2 pounds and it offers 13 active elements. The turning radius is 11 and 1/4 inches.

In the world of digital audio, there are two types of cable to choose from; optical cables which use light to transmit signal and digital coaxial cable. These audio cables will enable your home theater system to transmit digital data between components. This will provide you with superior sound quality over typical RCA audio cables.

How Digital Coaxial Cable Works

Digital coaxial cables employ the same principles as other coaxial cables. The inner conducting layer is surrounded by an outer conductor as well as the rubbery insulating layer outside the cable. The digital signal is sent through the inner conductor as it travels between components. During the course of its transmission, the signal routinely comes in contact with the outer conductor. The outer conductive layer is created with materials that act as a reflector for the signal, thereby bouncing it back off of its surface. The signal will continue to reflect within the confines of inner conductor until it reaches the receiving component.

Dedicated to Digital Audio

Digital coaxial cable has only one purpose; to deliver digital audio between components. This is in complete contrast to RF coaxial cable which transmits both video and audio along the same path. As you may suspect, dedicating the entire bandwidth of the cable to sending only digital audio has excellent ramifications for your home theater’s sound quality. This practice results in greater signal fidelity between the transmitting device and the receiving component. Greater signal fidelity means that the sound you hear from your home theater speakers will be truer to the way the sound was originally recorded.

Benefits of Digital Coaxial Cables

Digital coaxial cable also has another benefit related to its dedication to digital audio. In the manner that signal transmission usually takes place, the digital signal from the source, a DVD for example, is sent to a digital-to-analog converter (DAC). The signal is converted to analog and sent through the given cable where it reaches the receiving component on the other side. This component uses an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to reconstruct the digital signal as closely as possible. During this process, errors and variations can be introduced to the signal resulting in audible artifacts and distortions that diminish your home theater’s sound quality.

Unlike with other audio cables, digital coaxial cable can transmit digital signals along its length without the need to convert to analog. Digital coaxial cable is capable of by-passing this process and delivers a cleaner signal to your home theater receiver.

Applications of Digital Coaxial Cables

Connections for digital coaxial cables can be found on everything from DVD players to home theater receivers. If it uses digital audio, then chances are there is a manufacturer who has made that component with digital coaxial cables in mind.

Or do I still have to buy a receiver? This is the theater system that was seeing. Samsung HT-TX75 5. 1 Channel Home Theater Surround Sound System. … It can accept audio from your TV through RCA (or TOS-Link if you turn off the TV optical digital). If your gaming system offers HDMI, you can send your signal (audio and video) through this system. If not, can only send audio to it via the audio connection is not used for your TV.
